College Gridiron Showcase Television Program to Debut on Select Stations

DALLAS (August 19, 2020) – Mint Farm Films’ produced documentary on The College Gridiron Showcase (CGS) is set to debut on television stations across the United States beginning on Saturday, August 22 and other select dates throughout the fall and into December. The CGS program takes the viewer through the compelling backstories, on-field performances, and real-life fears of underdog players who hope to make it on the U.S.’s biggest sports stage – the National Football League. It offers football fans a unique look at the path the players they see on their favorite teams’ training camp rosters took to get there. They all have a chance to realize their dreams, but only a few have what it takes to play on Sundays.

The hour-long program will dive into the College Gridiron Showcase – a five-day evaluation and performance camp held in Fort Worth, Texas that provides exposure and education for college senior football players from around the U.S. prior to the NFL draft. More than 300 players were selected by a panel of football experts to come in for five days of evaluation by scouts from professional teams, typically including every NFL franchise.

The CGS chronicles players receiving professional on-field instruction, mentoring, life coaching, and seminars (including one from rape survivor and activist Brenda Tracy) that will benefit them as they move forward in their professional lives in or out of football. CGS co-founders Craig Redd and José Jefferson saw an opportunity to shake up the existing paradigm for showcasing potential professional players. Hundreds of CGS players have received National Football League and Canadian Football League opportunities.

The former college players invited to the CGS are tantalizingly close to making their dreams come true. But there are no sure things. The CGS invites those who have the potential to make it, but aren’t assured of being drafted or signed. Over several days of workouts, interviews, and evaluations, the stories of whether or not they fulfill their dreams will be written.

Highlights of the 2020 CGS program and the players’ compelling stories include:

  • A one-time top recruit confronting the off-field issues that caused him to enroll at four colleges and put his pro football dreams in serious jeopardy.
  • A record-setting running back from a small school, homeless as a kid, who hopes to realize a lifelong dream on the NFL’s big stage.
  • An offensive lineman whose mental health issues forced him to leave the Big Ten school he loved and finish college at a lower-level school in Texas.
  • An offensive lineman who grew up in poverty and became one of the few players to announce he was gay while still competing.
  • A small-school running back who persevered through two torn ACLs.

Program sponsors include: KT Tape, Service King Collision Centers, One on One Kicking Camps, 44 Management, Reveal Suits, and Visit Fort Worth. Specific broadcast stations available upon request.
